Lightning McGuido

We've been on what can only be described as a 'Cars bender'. Hour after hour of tractor tipping, pit stops, jumps and big crashes. Cars when we wake up, Cars when we take a nap and Cars when we go to bed.

Finding the popular die-cast characters is no easy feat, but fortunately we have undercover operatives scattered throughout the Front Range. Grammy found the coveted Mater at an obscure Walgreens in Longmont and Cousin Nora has been scouting a Target down in Littleton. The collection is growing and we now have 'Rebbie' (Red), 'McGuido' (Guido), 'The Bus' (Filmore) and of course Lightning, Doc, Sheriff, Sally, Mater and Mack.

A few things to note if find yourself in Radiator Springs (aka somewhere near the bean bag in our living room): (1) Our vacuum is Frank (the angry combine) (2) Tractors are to be tipped on Ian's mark - no sooner, no later and (3) When opening Mack's trailer, you need to sing the first verse of the song 'Real Gone' by Sheryl Crow. Oh, and 'McGuido' sometimes flies around on a twisty straw.

Signed, 'Big Lightning' (aka Dad)

Picture Perfect

Matt makes fun of me, but I have a thing for photographers. I don't know what it is, but I think I have this idea that they can capture some angle, look, moment, or something else that those who know us well can't. This is not always true, as Matt has taken some pretty awesome pictures of the kids, but I think there is some truth to it. Matt jokes that I think they are starving artists and I need to shovel money to them. But I guess I just like the opportunity of some great photos that will capture this particular moment in time. Anyway, when the opportunity came up through a parenting circle here in Boulder to have an amateur-turning-pro take some free shots of the kids, of course I did it! I think they turned out really nice.... here is the link to the photographer's blog to see the full selection:

She took like a million pictures, but these were her pick. She usually only posts a few from a session, but we were "so cute" that she posted a bunch:-) I'll take the kids back this summer (before she starts charging, of course!) and maybe Ian will be in a smiling mood. Of course, when you ask him to smile for a picture he scrunches up his face and may grace the camera with his special double-eye wink. You have to catch those smiles on the fly....

Me, a blogger??

I've tried journals. I've tried baby books. I've tried photo albums. I'm hopeless at keeping up, and our babies' milestones, new words, and cute anecdotes are at risk of slipping by if I don't do something! I've never even written down our birth stories- not that I expect to forget them... So this is my attempt to document our relatively simple life in Boulder. I'm not sure what I'll write about on a weekly basis, but there's always something. Only we may find it interesting, but it may help us capture what matters... the little moments- happy, exciting, perplexing, sad, disappointing- that make up our life as a family. So Matt and I will occasionally update our page with current events, pictures, and our current thoughts on whatever we may be thinking about. Subscribe below, and never miss a beat:-)
